The Great Sand Dunes. They are really great. Piled so high (Highest is Star Dune at 229m) We've only managed to scale the High Dune which is 192m tall. And THAT was quite a feat already. Imagine hiking on sand. Those sand was accumulated some 12,000 - more than a million years ago. It seems quite odd. The mountain range stretches at the back, and then a huge pile of sand is deposited just in front of the mountains. A huge contrast to the landscape around. I was simply overwhelmed by the vast area of sand. The 5-hour drive was worth it. (Though I'm not the ones who drove). Credit goes to CM, Grace and K. ;p
